What is the difference between emergency and urgent care?

Urgent Care

Conditions requiring prompt treatment but can wait for the time it takes to contact your PCP for direction, such as – sprained ankle, earache and fever.

Emergency Care

Conditions that place your health or the health of another in serious jeopardy, such as – sudden onset of a condition with acute symptoms, severe pain, suspected heart attack, stroke, poisoning , loss of consciousness, convulsion and suicide attempts.

If you need emergency care, go to the nearest medical facility or call 911.

What does this mean to you?

If you are a Blue Cross, Tufts, Cigna, or Harvard Pilgrim member, and find that you need urgent care, please call our office at (978) 577-0437. If you are unable to call, you may walk in for the next available appointment. After the urgent care issue has been assessed, an appointment will be provided on the same day.

PPO insurances

If you have a PPO plan, Pediatrics West is still able to offer urgent care services. Please be aware that it is the member’s responsibility to know their benefits and plan coverage. Please contact your insurance company if you have questions regarding coverage.
